#159 Jamie Lee and Tom’s Treatment Talk

March 30, 2013
4

It’s our most chaotic episode yet as Jamie, Cy, and Jeff Passolt all arrive to talk about Tom’s announcement on Friday.  Well, Jamie actually came here to be interviewed, but she soon found out that the joke was on her.

Named one of the “Top Five Comedians Who Should Be Movie Stars” by Nerve.com and one of the “Top 18 Women You Should Be Following On Twitter” by Huffington Post, Jamie Lee is an unstoppable force in the funny biz. Lee was a semi-finalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” co-hosted the first annual Critics Choice Awards for Vh1.com and continues to appear on Vh1 talking head shows such as “Undateable” and “Greatest Songs of the 00s.” She recently joined the cast of TruTV’s “World’s Dumbest” and performed stand-up on TV Guide’s all-female comedy series “Stand Up in Stilettos.” Lee writes for television, as well. She wrote on Rob Dyrdek’s MTV series “Ridiculousness” and is currently writing on “The Midnight Show with Pete Holmes,” a new pilot for TBS produced by Conan O’Brien.

Tom’s announcement

Posted by Andy - March 29, 2013 - News
2

For those of you seeking more information about Tom’s announcement he made earlier today, we’re uploading a bonus episode tomorrow wherein he goes into excruciating detail.  It’s also got one of Cy’s favorite new comedians, Cy himself (yes, again), and Jeff Passolt.

#158 Cy Amundson

March 29, 2013
1

Today we walked into the studio to find Cy already there, because that’s where he lives now apparently.

Cy Amundson has quickly established himself as one of the nation’s fastest rising stand-up comedians. He was a standout performer as a New Face at last summer’s Montreal Just For Laughs Festival and recently made his television debut on Conan.  Named CMT’s Next Big Comic for 2011, Cy has been on the Bob and Tom Show and has performed in the Aspen Comedy Festival, Seattle International Comedy Competition, and the Great American Comedy Festival in Johnny Carson’s home town of Norfolk, NE. Cy effectively manages to challenge the audience while remaining delightfully and positively relatable. Some of his favorite things include Larry Bird, pancakes, and anything Teen Wolf related.

#157 Mike Brody

March 28, 2013
4

After nearly 45 minutes of uninterrupted comedy courtesy of Mike, Cy Amundson shows up early and brings negative vibes into the room.

Starting comedy on a whim at an open mic in the year 2000, Mike has since devoted his life to perfecting the delivery of his high-energy act. Bucking the trend of the apathetic comedian, his genuine passion for his craft draws audience members into the unique world of Mike Brody: An affable, clever guy whose life is often derailed by his own neurotic, obsessive-compulsive and clumsy tendencies.  He has worked with Dave Attell, Emo Philips, Doug Stanhope, Doug Benson, and legendary street performer/madman/savant Wesley Willis,  and hosted ten episodes of the Minneapolis TV series The Buzz.  He is the official event comedian for the SyFy Channel’s TV show “Ghost Hunters”.  He has also appeared on the nationally syndicated radio program “The Bob & Tom Show.”

Check out some select choices of Mike’s personal picture album:

#156 Don Shelby

March 27, 2013
15

Don and Tom dispense levity and wisdom alike.

Don Shelby joined WCCO-TV in 1978 as a news reporter. After continued work as a reporter, Shelby began assuming anchor responsibilities in greater capacity, eventually assuming the primary anchor chair from Dave Moore. Shelby was the chief architect behind WCCO’s “I-Team” segment, which spotlighted current issues, both local and on a larger world scale, with rigorous investigative journalism. After suffering a mild stroke in early 2004, Shelby returned to news reading duties by the end of that year. Shelby retired from television after his final WCCO-TV newscast on November 22, 2010.

Tom’s alleged prickishness is brought up several times as we talk about guests of years past.

Louie describes his appearance on Splash and Bob talks about the firing of Tubby.

Louis Perry “Louie” Anderson is an American stand-up comedian. Anderson created the cartoon series Life with Louie, has written three books, and was the initial host of the second revival of the game show Family Feud, from 1999 to 2002.

Sansevere, a sports columnist for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, joined the morning show with Jeff Passolt after the departure of Mark Rosen, and is known as “Sanny” by the listeners. He has also served as a city council member of the suburb of Orono, where he and his wife Mary run a miniature horse ranch, and hosted a social-commentary segment on KSTP-TV called “Sansevere Sounds Off” until February 2008.

#153 Chris Bliss and Josh Weinstein

March 15, 2013
6

When you think of Weinstein, think of Einstein.  When you think of Bliss, think of estrogen.

Weinstein was one of the founding writers/performers of the show in 1988 at the age of 17. He changed his professional name from “Josh” to “J. Elvis” to avoid confusion with former Simpsons writer Josh Weinstein. The two are frequently confused nonetheless. Weinstein worked on Mystery Science Theater 3000 during its original appearance on Minneapolis UHF station KTMA-TV from 1988 to 1989, and its first season on Comedy Central (then called the Comedy Channel) from 1989 to 1990.  After leaving Mystery Science Theater 3000, he went on to become a writer for The Young Person’s Guide to Becoming a Rock Star, Malcolm and Eddie, and he wrote and produced the critically acclaimed NBC dramedy Freaks and Geeks. He has also been the head writer for NBC’s late night show Later with Greg Kinnear, and America’s Funniest Home Videos.  Weinstein has an extensive background in stand-up comedy; he has performed over a thousand shows as a stand-up comedian, and has also written material for Garry Shandling, Dennis Miller, Roseanne Barr, Louie Anderson and other comedians. He is currently the president of Stinkburger Inc.

Chris Bliss is an American stand up comedian and juggler, perhaps best known for a viral video of him juggling to Beatles songs.  Aside from his performance career, Bliss has also started the nonprofit MyBillofRights.org, granted 501(c) 3 status in 2006. The goal of the project is to create monuments and other public displays of the United States Bill of Rights in civic spaces across America. Their first display was dedicated in Montezuma, Iowa on July 5, 2008. A monument at the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix has been approved and is in the final stages of design development. The Bill of Rights Plaza design, for the Texas State Capitol in Austin, has also been approved for fundraising. The organization is funded by individual contributions, and has also been supported by the Newman’s Own Foundation.

#152 Jen Kober

March 14, 2013
2

The ball is in Jen’s court as she goes balls to the wall.  Everyone has a ball and I can’t think of any more ball puns.  Anyway, Jen tells us about how she dislikes balls.

Originally from Lake Charles, LA, Jen Kober has bounded onto the national stage bringing crowds to their feet with her original blend of stand-up, story telling, and improvised rock-n-roll comedy. Her hard-hitting hour is phenomenally funny as Kober commands the stage and dares you not to laugh.

Listening Tips

1. When listening to the live show if you have a WiFi signal and are in one location the whole time you listen, you should not have any stoppages.

2. When listening to a recorded podcast, download the show first and then click play. If you attempt to download the show while driving, your phone will attempt to go from 4G to 3G to WiFi, which causes interruptions.
