#150 Mike Morris

March 12, 2013
7

The Superstar talks about how Meat Sauce got his name and also various sports things that are probably entertaining.

Morris was a four-year starter at Northeast Missouri State, and entered the National Football League as an undrafted free agent. He played brief stints for the Arizona Cardinals, the Kansas City Chiefs, the New England Patriots, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Cleveland Browns before settling in as the long snapper for the Vikings, where he played consistently throughout the 1990s. During the 1998 playoff game against the Atlanta Falcons for the Minnesota Vikings, he was blamed by Dennis Green for the snap being too high leading to Gary Anderson’s only missed field goal of the year.  Following the end of his career, Morris took over the morning drive time slot on sports radio station KFAN after the failure of Dan Cole’s show necessitated a replacement. Morris broadcasted using the moniker ‘The Superstar’ and his show was known as The Power Trip Morning Show. Morris was also the co-host of Vikings Fanline with Cory “Sludge” Cove. Another one of his nicknames that poked fun at his lack of intelligence was Mike “Densa” Morris. Morris always signs Bon Scott when asked for an autograph. On KFAN Morris also had an arch nemesis that went by the name of Hawkey Doody, a mischievous puppet that had it out for the “Superstar.”

#149 Matt Muenster

March 11, 2013

Matt’s return to the Tom Barnard Podcast coincides with Costaki’s.  Havoc ensues.  But not really.

Licensed contractor Matt Muenster sees every house project, whether he’s ripping apart dated bathrooms using the latest construction technology or completely gutting his own kitchen, as a chance to use his clever ideas to achieve great design while integrating earth-friendly elements. Matt earned his degree in interior design from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He initially got his feet wet designing restaurants and casinos and even worked on the Angolan Project in Africa. Eventually, his fervor for design shifted to the residential sector. His professional experience includes high-end interior design, and he gets an adrenaline rush every time he transforms a boring bathroom into a fantastic one on DIY Network’s Bath Crashers and BATHtastic! series.

#147 Kevin Bozeman

March 7, 2013

Kevin dons the garb of a philosopher on today’s episode of the Tom Barnard Podcast/Show/Whatever.

It was 1999, six years after finishing his collegiate basketball career at Division III Whitewater College, and bouncing around jobs that Kevin found himself in the real world with no real job skills and a strong desire to work an hour a day.  What to do?  Inspired by nights on the couch watching Def Comedy Jam and challenged by his roommate, Kevin decided to head over to nearby Madison, WI and try the “Open-Mic Night”.  “I always was the guy who could make people laugh, and lets be honest I had nothing better going on”.  Thirteen years later Kevin is still going on-stage, and he has found the job that fit his requirements.  “For an hour a night I’m wildly successful”.  With a smooth and clever style, a great smile and a contagious laugh Kevin has been entertaining in clubs and colleges across the country.  In 2000 he was the winner of the Midwest region of the HBO “Comedy Competition” and flew to Los Angeles to compete as a finalist.  He performed on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend” in 2003, and finished 2nd in the Boston Comedy Competition in 2005.  He was a semi-finalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” in 2010.  This past summer he co-starred in the Indie film “Flat Chested” starring Alicia Witt and Luke Perry.

#145 Billy Ray Harris and Thom Filicia

March 5, 2013

Today’s roster includes Billy Ray Harris, the homeless man with morals of diamond, and Thom Filicia, the interior designer with glasses of alcohol.

Billy Ray Harris was a panhandler in Kansas City who happened upon a diamond ring which was accidentally dropped into his beggar’s cup.  After a jeweler told him it was in fact real, he tracked down the owner and returned it.  He subsequently found himself reunited with his sister (and several “cousins”) and dozens of thousands of dollars richer courtesy of donations.

Interior designer Thom Filicia is founder and Chief Creative Officer of New York City-based design firm, Thom Filicia, Inc. Since launching the acclaimed enterprise in 1998, Filicia’s New-American Style has earned him widespread acclaim and notable clients in the worlds of entertainment, finance, sports, media, fashion and hospitality. Filicia is universally known for his ability to create stunning modern, yet classic interiors that retain an inviting aesthetic which reflects the individuality of his clients.  Filicia’s unmistakable design sensibility has earned him countless accolades from the design world including being named by House Beautiful as one of their “Top 100 Designers,” House & Garden dubbed him an “International Taste Maker” and Elle Décor regaled him as an “A-List Designer.” Additionally, Filicia has been featured in The New York Times, People, In Style, Vogue Home, O, USA Today and many other national and international publications.

Youtube and the play button

Youtube is on hold at the moment due to lack of use.  The episodes will be put up eventually, but we have some things we want to try out.  Of course, if we get enough requests for it, I’ll start putting them up daily again.

Secondly, the play button is messed up and we’re aware of that.  We’ll try to get it fixed soon.

#144 Abigail Raye

The Tom Barnard Podcast tries new format with news stories you won’t hear on the radio, an interview with Abigail Raye (the Lady of the Lake in Spamalot), and a list of seven professions that get paid more than you’d think.

Abigail is totally psyched to be joining the Spamalot tour & this amazing cast once again! Originally from Warwick, NY and an American Musical & Dramatic Academy (AMDA) graduate, she has dreamt of performing this role since not being able to shut up as a child. Recent credits include: Clifford the Big Red Dog National Tour, Pippin (The Leading Player), and The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Edwin Drood).

TBP interviews our very own Treasure Detective who has some warnings about fake antiques.

“Treasure Detectives” takes you deep inside the world of arts, antiques and collectibles and asks the question: is it a fake or is it worth a fortune? The series introduces world-renowned art detective Curtis Dowling and his team of investigators whose clients may be the victim of elaborate hoaxes. Each week, the “Treasure Detectives” team meets collectors and verifies the authenticity of collectibles, artwork and antiquities using innovative technology and street smarts to determine whether they’re sophisticated forgeries or extremely valuable collectors’ items…answers that could cost or earn owners a small fortune. They trace not just where an item came from, but how it was made…and in many cases, how it was faked.

Listening Tips

1. When listening to the live show if you have a WiFi signal and are in one location the whole time you listen, you should not have any stoppages.

2. When listening to a recorded podcast, download the show first and then click play. If you attempt to download the show while driving, your phone will attempt to go from 4G to 3G to WiFi, which causes interruptions.
