Mark conveys many beer-related facts and anecdotes, a topic we can all relate to.
A Wahpeton, North Dakota native, Mark graduated in 1975 from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Social Work. After spending time in that field, Mark yearned for a new challenge. So he weighed two very disparate options for his future: go back to grad school or go into brewing. Luckily for beer lovers, he chose the latter and founded Summit Brewing Company – eventually beginning commercial production in 1986. After attending numerous courses at the Siebel Institute in Chicago, Mark was awarded the J.E. Siebel Memorial Scholarship and graduated with the 1991 Course in Brewing Technology. Under his careful watch, Summit has grown from a plucky upstart a step ahead of the resurging craft brew trend to a beloved name well beyond St. Paul.
